The history of news transmission at UT

University of Tehran, renowned as the Mother University and Higher Education Symbol, enjoys its own management aims, duties, programs, and policies. For this very reason it has always tried to communicate effectively with its addressees through exercising different means at different times.

The activities of UT Public Relations Office can be classified as:

  1. Published news transmission.

  2. Digital news transmission.

  3. Correspondence with the press

 1. Published news transmission:

A.     Press cuttings:

UT news, published around the country in the morning press as well as in the evening press is compiled in different copies and dispatched to UT Board of Directors. Press clippings are also published in the form of a book twice a year.

B.     UT newsletter:

In 1946 Dr A. Siasi, then UT President, agreed with the idea of establishing an office titled: "Office of Publication and UT Internal and External Relations" supervised by an academician from the Faculty of Literature.

The vastness of UT Organization, the variety of faculties and affiliated institutions and, moreover, the diversity of rules and regulations at UT required efficient news transfer. Publication of "UT Newsletter" was the first step to this end which was published monthly at the beginning in 1947 and then changed to weekly. After the Islamic Revolution it was named "Loh va Ghalam" until about ten years ago which was renamed: Moddat", meant UT Monthly.

C.     Brochures and catalogues: UT Prospectus:

The University of Tehran enjoys a unique and outstanding situation among the universities of the country. In order to introduce the University to all walks of life, the UT Public Relations Office has tried to publish UT prospectus. It was first brought out in1999 and the second edition was published 5 years later. In 2006 it was carefully edited, updated and then published again.

In addition to the comprehensive prospectus of the University of Tehran, The Public Relations Office has brought out different brochures including brief information about UT for visitors to it.

2. Digital News Transmission

A.     UT Sorush System:

This system (voice mail) which was the first digital and the most modern way of news transfer at that time, started to be used in 1998. With the coming of internet the old system became old-fashioned. Internet was faster and easier to use and therefore the old system was replaced by internet.

B.     News data bank

As internet became the major means of communication, UT General Office of Public Relations in cooperation with UT Informatics Center established an internet database called UT News Network in November 1998 in order to reflect the events and news of UT and in 2004 the site was modernized. UT heads of public relations offices are in touch with each other through a system called News Circulation System.
